In January 2024, Great Smoky Mountain Conservation Association is proud to announce the following research grants totaling $29,974 to support applied research projects that are designed to produce lasting results for conservation of Great Smoky Mountain National Park’s natural resources.

Carlos C. Campbell Memorial Fellowship

“GRISLD-Support funding for “Gang of Retirees in Search of Life’s Diversity”, Keith Langdon, NPS; Dan Pittillo, Western Carolina University; Tom Howe, Foothills Land Conservancy; Paul Durr, Little River Biological Consulting; Robert Emmott, NPS; and Nora Murdock, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Grant amount: $7,500

“Genetic evaluation of conservation actions for Citico Darter, Etheostoma sitikuense”, Spencer Trimbe and Rebecca Blanton Johansen, Austin Peay State University. Grant amount: $7,474

James T. Tanner Memorial Fellowship

“Spatial variation and genetic diversity in a multi-sourced brook trout restoration site in the Great Smoky Mountains”, Rebecca J. Smith and Benjamin M. Fitzpatrick., EEB, University of Tennessee. Grant amount: $15,000

Since 1982, a total of more than $600,000 in combined grants have been awarded through the Carlos C. Campbell and James T. Tanner Memorial Fellowships to support research within Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
